When using rollers of this type for work with alkyd paints and varnishes it is necessary to keep in mind that foam rubber is unstable to their solvents and quickly loses its physical properties. Foam rollers cannot be used with paints which are diluted with acetone, ethyl acetate, toluene. When working with quicklime, foam rubber quickly loses its physical properties and may delaminate.
